Augmented reality is becoming increasingly popular and it will only continue to grow as AR-ready devices become more accessible around the world. The idea of seeing something in front of us that isn’t actually there can seem a little terrifying, right? Well, many of us have already used some form of AR.

So what exactly is augmented reality? It is an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated content. No, it is not the same thing as virtual reality.

Remember in 2016 when everyone was running around chasing Pokemon in the street? The Pokemon appeared on your phone and it was your neighborhood on the screen, but of course Pikachu wasn’t actually hiding in your bush. That was augmented reality.

How about when you’re watching a football game and you see the lines appear on the screen to explain the play? That’s right – AR has been around for a lot longer than you may have thought. It’s just continuing to grow as technology advances and adapts.

Augmented reality is showing up more on platforms as a way to make the shopping experience a lot easier. On apps like Amazon, you can now see a 3D image of a couch or other object as it would look in your room. Or you can look at yourself in glasses, shoes and other items before purchasing. Snapchat lenses physically puts you in the ad by allowing you to try on what the advertisement is selling.

Brands need to embrace AR! Brainstorm ideas about how this emerging technology can enhance your business. Augmented reality is here to stay and will only grow and become more interactive.
